Blue Steel v Tuggeranong

“God save me, we’re playing Tuggeranong again”. Steph could not contain her excitement and anticipation (steph: read: dread and fear for her young life) as the draw revealed that her unhealed bruises would once again be subject to the tactics of the ladies (steph: ha!) from Tuggeranong. But not to be deterred by the previous weeks warfare with Tuggeranong, Blue Steel turned out in force on a windy Sunday morning in Waramanga, to first battle with putting the nets up, before showing Tuggeranong what steely soccer players ANU Blue Steel are.

After dominating the first half, Blue Steel were unlucky to be one nil down at half time, as the gods of luck decided to play on the side of Tuggeranong. However, under the guidance and instruction of their fearless leader Julian, Blue Steel wooed the gods of luck to do their bidding in the second half. The traps were perfect, the passes were perfect, and Rowena hammered the ball into the net to equalise. The expletives being hurled at the opposition became more confident, fearless leader Julian grew increasingly animated on the sideline, and then GOAL – with Rowena and then Maire taking the goalie’s attention, Kerrie discovered the results of learning to kick straight by scoring two goals. The final result was a 3-1 victory to Blue Steel. (Steph: Eugoogilise that!)
