ANU Blue Steel (doesn't want to talk about it) 0 - Cooma 4

Not so long ago, in a land far, far away, ANU Blue Steel found themselves off the catwalk, disoriented and without any CDs to play in the car. That’s right, it was the inevitable trip to Cooma, under taken by every SL3 team once during the season. Sadly, though the Cooma Tourist Information Centre claims Cooma “has much to offer” and is a “pretty and vibrant town”, the trip did not prove popular. With key players such Prof. ‘Where are my ovaries?’ Hansel, Magnum, Le Tigra and Marshmellow ‘fatty’ Kmart among others missing, Blue Steel was down to only 11 players, none of them a keeper, and one with a mysterious ankle injury which meant only 10 were on the intergalactic sized field in the dying minutes of the match.

None the less, our feats were inspiring. Blue Steel held her poise and gave the Cooma biddies a decent challenge. The second half, without subs on a huge field, meant Blue Steel tired, but impressively we kept our shape and positions. The likes of Steph ‘Oh my God I thought we said no shots!’ Mugatu, Wham, Katinka, and Just-grab-her-legs-Derelicte meant Blue Steel saw only one goal slip past our courageous stand-in goalie Francis with an unlucky deflection in the first half. In the second half Cooma decided it was time to put the small, round, extremely deceptively fast sweeper into a striker position. Turns out Cooma only have enough players to put one team in the entire ACT comp, and aforementioned deceptively fast girl packed a shot which division one players would admire. She packed in two of them actually. And while Blue Steel’s defenders and second stand-in goalie Derelicte shut down and blocked a number of shots, the Cooma subs had too much energy to keep up with. Despite the score line, our ability to hold position meant we didn’t walk away feeling like we’d just failed to pull our underwear out from underneath our pants. Go Blue Steel, we are Magnum in the making.
